EMERGENCY DENTIST
Tooth Fairy Dental reserves a couple of emergency dental appointments a day at either our Mount Maunganui, Bethlehem or Te Puke dental clinics.
These appointments are available to accommodate patients with severe toothache. Please call reception to secure one of these appointments. One of our dentists will attempt to get you out of pain on the day of your appointment, however depending on the severity of the tooth infection, antibiotics may be the only immediate treatment possible.
TOOTHACHE
Toothache can range from a mild ache to a severe throb depending on the cause of the toothache, the state of your immune system and how long your tooth has been infected. Dental pain can be triggered by dentine exposure, dental caries, dental trauma or gum (periodontal) disease.
If you have toothache after business hours try following one of these recommendations:
- Pain relief – Take a combination of Ibuprofen (Nurofen) and Paracetamol (Panadol) or Ibuprofen and Panadiene. Try take each medication 3 hours apart to allow the second medication to peak while the first medication is tapering away (the blanket effect). Ensure you take no more than the recommended dosages.
- Home remedies – visit Filling Gaps for tips and ideas
If you are experiencing severe toothache over the weekend please contact Tauranga’s emergency dentist on 07 571 1230.
DENTAL ACCIDENTS AND EMERGENCIES
Call us immediately for emergency dental care. Some dental accidents need to be treated as soon as possible to help save the teeth.
ACC is available for dental accidents. We will ask you to complete an ACC form when you arrive and take the necessary x-rays and photos that ACC requires. Generally minor repairs or emergency dental treatment can be completed at your first visit, however for complex treatment we will need to apply to ACC for prior approval. ACC does not fully cover all treatment costs but you will be advised what your co-payment will be.
KNOCKED YOUR TOOTH RIGHT OUT
Pick it up by the crown (the top of the tooth we see in our smile). Try not to touch the root. If it is clean, put it back into the socket and call us immediately. It if is dirty, rinse it but do not scrub it or put it in alcohol to clean.
If you can’t put it back in, place it in some milk or in your cheek and call us straight away. Remember to bring the tooth with you.
